Copper Inclusions Empty Copper Inclusions

Post  Ashlynn Sun Jan 01, 2012 5:27 pm

Just having a play to see what happens, rather like the bubbles in the bottom one. All done at the same time, more or less the same size, my cutting still needs practice...........

The top one was a textured leaf shape dipped in LOS and just the top buffed up - bit of a reaction there.

The other two remained much the same as they were put in with the addition of bubbles.

Not got a clue what to do with them but if was fun playing.

Ashlynn they look very interesting but I'm not sure what I'm looking at.
Are they glass cabs with fragments of copper set into the molten glass?
I particularly like the 3rd one.

Sorry, I just waffle on assuming everyone knows what I am up to.

Yes Odonata you are correct - in a nutshell, 2 oblong layers of bullseye dichroic glass encasing fragements of copper fused into cabs in a kiln.

You guys in here are very creative n imaginative. I know I don't work with glass but if I did I don't think I'd come up with that idea. What causes the bubbles? Is it trapped air or a reaction from the copper to the heat? It creates a very lovely effect. The bottom pic looks like little pearls in a copper coral Smile

Lynne they're amazing, I too particularly like the 3rd one, are you going to make them into jewellery?

I am very very new to working with glass, learning by my mistakes, so any constructive criticism/observations very welcome.

Bubbles I am pretty certain are trapped air and although the glass had a 'soak' period to allow air to escape not all made it but I like the effect.

Do'nt like the first one at all so that is destined for re-cycling.

The middle one is quite square 2cm by 2cm and I think deserves to become jewellery, prob some sort of pendant set in copper to compliment the inclusion.

The third one, the one I like the most, is about the same size but wonky, now do I fire again and see if it will go rounder or do I leave it well alone - think I need to get me book out and see if it is possible that re-firing will achieve a more rounded cab.

I love the last one it reminds me of seaweed with bubbles. I'm finding it all fascinating your fusing journey.

They are lovely, the sort of thing you can look at for ages and see different things. They look really tactile as well. I love the colours of the middle one.

You could always set the 3rd as a kite shape instead of a square. It works well.
