Designing jewellery course
Hello
I am not sure I am placing this in the right forum so sorry in advance if it is in the correct place.
I am not much of a drawer (Actually, that's putting it very mildly! Lol!) but I have lots oif ideas for jewellery and I would like to be able to transfer them to paper as otherwise I forget them. (!) Wouldwou know whether there is a course out there or are there tutorials on how to draw your ideas?/on Jewellery desing?
Thank you,
Bea. :-)

Re: Designing jewellery course
If I were you, I'd go for a City and Guilds course, they don't teach you how to draw etc but that course is more design based than practical.
Like you, I had lots of ideas that I wanted to do and make. This course taught me how to push my idea's into unique designs and then create it.

Re: Designing jewellery course
Thank you for the advice Mooch. Is there a course provider you can recommend for the City & Guild? There are so many of them out there

Re: Designing jewellery course
Can I just say I'm rubbish at drawing too - but sometimes I have a play with plastecine or paper models - that might be of use in the interim Bea. Can't help with the courses but Mooch's did sound way better than the training I had
Re: Designing jewellery course
You could be after something like art & design adult learning in your area would be a good place to help you. But a basic sketch with lots of written notes is just as good as a full planned desgin, as is little models.
Re: Designing jewellery course
Hey Cornish
I have been looking for evening or weekend art classes round Luton and where I work in London for month with not much luck. Can't find what I want or if I do it is either too expensive or during the day time. I so want to learn wood or clay or stone sculpting.
One day I'll move to an artistic area!!

Re: Designing jewellery course
I know how you feel we have no local adult education metal smithing courses, darn We've got the Mid Cornwall Jewellery school but I can't afford to go especially as I get sidetracked by glass I desperately need
Re: Designing jewellery course
Well I did mine at a local college. In the beginning it was a bit arse about face but once the course got going it was fun. In particular, there is lots of encouragement for using lots of different mediums to play with when you're designing on a city and guilds course. Me personally I would have preferred more practical and less design faff..but thats just me. I'm not really one for messing about with egg cartons, and sticking bits on. As a large portion of our class group were. I'm thankful for the insight into design though. There is lots of models to make.

If you don't have a Technical College nearby, Bea, try phoning Learn Direct and tell them what you are looking for. It's their sole purpose to get people educated in whatever subject they want and so they have a huge database of courses all over the country. They found a 3D animation course for a friend of mine and Japanese lessons for my son. Both courses were in obscure locations we would never have found without them.
I can't draw well at all but if I DO get a good idea I'll sketch it anyway. It's only for myself, no-one else gets to see it and I recognise it for it what it represents. It just needs to remind you of the idea you had. good luck.
