Setting Lampwork Cabs Empty Setting Lampwork Cabs

I had a chat with George today, because neither of the cabs I set were easy and I couldn't stop them moving about completely. I was concerned that it may be that my hands have grown weak as I do get rsi - but my thoughts were confirmed, that the cabs need a bit of 2 part epoxy underneath. Not to glue them in place, although this would be the effect, but so that there's something to cusion the cab against whilst you're pushing the top of the bezel over. A few of you have had cabs off me now so I just wanted to share that info as there's nothing more irritating than not being able to get the verdammte stone to stay still!

Thank you for that Tinker (and George). I was just starting to think about how to do it and ordering the bezel wire while there's the free P&P offer at Cookies. Any idea which width I might need, 3mm or 5mm?

I don't get on with bezel wire as it's too flimsy for old basher Newman here... I buy .999 sheet and cut strips - it looks more substantial a finish too, to my mind. But I'd go for the 5mm if you're getting some - easier to remove than add Laughing

How true! Many thanks for the advice. I will start to make my own if/when I get a rolling mill. Buying lots of different thicknesses of sheet is getting expensive! Still saving (after all these years). Isn't that a song or summat?

No probs - and the other great thing- fine silver does not firestain or gakk up in the flame so less clean-up time, so there's a saving right there! I buy a piece of .5mm thick rectangle and because I'm cutting strips there tends to be little wasteage as all the different lengths I need fit together some way or other - just cut out what you need. For the big cabs I measure the circumference with a paper tape measure from ikea.

Oo I like that ikea tape measure tip.
I've only tried cab setting once but really need to have another go. the last one went so wrong and was so hard I've been put off trying again. Must stop being a cissy and get on with it.
