Green glass
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE :-)
I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with Petrol Green, Light Green and Mermaid colours? The one I ordered from Off the Mandrel tend to turn red in random areas and also in areas where I touch during the making process.... such as when making a swirl with another mandrel... this is very annoying as I was trying to make some big flat beads for a new necklace in green but the areas which were touched by the pliers to flatten or pressed against the marver turned red... the red is not every where and it is not nice on suc big beads.... is this something you have experienced before? Am I doing something wrong? I do not recall having this problem with the same colours from Tuffnell.

Re: Green glass
Miss George may know, but it sounds like it's the cooling of the glass (when introducing other tools) making the cooper oxides show, not sure of the physic's or is it chemistry? Or both? Behind this.
Have you tried gently reheating it?
Tred the same question over on "frit happens", if you don't get any joy here.
I'm only a beginner in the world of glass, but have got something in the crevices of my mind about this happening. I'll check back through my books.

Re: Green glass
Thank you :-) I have tried re-heating it but the colour remains the same. I managed to make some pressed on marver or with the pliers with Mermaid before with no red appearing which is why I am finding it strange.
Re: Green glass
Indeed, you would, why don't you email off mandrel, I find they are really very helpfull, even better, give them a call and see what they say.

Re: Green glass
Hmm not sure myself I did think you may need to work it in the cooler part of the flame as it may be scumming, i would see if mizgeorge posts or someone on Frit Happens may know.
Re: Green glass
I think part of the make-up of green glass actually contains copper to give it the colour - but emailing the supplier would definitely be an advantage even if it's to see if its an expected reaction. It could be a bad batch and if it is they would probs ly be aware already. Sounds pretty though! If there's a bead you particularly wanted to lost the effect from though, perhaps etching.might be a solution?
Re: Green glass
Thank you, i'll email the supplier when I can.... I'm in Paris for work so I can't call them and I have limited email access. :-/
