Commission
Ok I have a lady who wants a heart pendant made, she want her childrens and hubby initials entwined together on it. She's designed what she wants.
I'm stuck on how to pull it off.
Do I use pmc? but looking at the price of pmc fook!!!!!! I do have some pmc that Im re-hydrating.
I was thinking, could I use pmc sheet to cut out the letters?? I dont have engraving equipment. The commission is for 15th October so I do have time but not much.
Most pmc stuff I've done is freehand so I need help.
Any ideas please?

Re: Commission
How about etching it on sterling?
Edinburgh etch is safe and not scary like the nitric acid I use!

Re: Commission
Ferric Chloride? I have some of that but it says it doesn't work on silver

Re: Commission
Hows about making it and then sending it off to someone who does engraving or etching to just do the initials? Giving you a ring in a minute hon, just catching up on mails etc.
Re: Commission
Thanks for that hon, I hope you feel better soon.
MizG, do you think it would be a good idea asking Alan, GeTi about engraving?

Re: Commission
Alan has done some engraving for me in the past, and the work is just perfect. It's not cheap, but not as expensive as you might think either.
The finish is, of course, far crisper than etching, and needs a lot less cleanup afterwards, but you would need to factor the cost in, including postage.
There's good information about silver etching with ferric nitrate here: http://www.makersgallery.com/goss/etch-ster.html

Re: Commission
Even with Alan's costs, it's probably still going to be cheaper than doing it with pmc

Re: Commission
Indeed!!!
So that's put my mind at rest. Just spoken to the lady about her design and I have a clear idea of what she wants. She sent her hubby round to me and bless him he wasn't totally sure
