Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone had tried cutting with a dremel. I have all those little brown wheels which I assume are for cutting but have never used them. Would they cut through china plates for instance? I made a necklace before with a pottery shard, but I just smashed the plate with a hammer but it's hard to get pieces the right shape that way and with a nice bit of the pattern.

Interesting! No I haven't - but if I were to experiment I would put some masking tape over the joint when you do. Have you got a scrap bit to try with?

Yep got a few broken bits, I could have a go if I can find my safety specs. Don't think it would be wise with just my normal glasses lol!

DEFFINITELY not safe with your ordinary glasses as they can shatter under the impact of flying "shrapnel".
I haven't tried cutting with little discs either but I'm wondering if you scored the pottery with a tile cutter in the place where you want it to shatter would it be more likely to break where you scored it? Might be worth trying on a cheap piece first of course.

I've used them on metal they do wear down quickly. Not sure on pottery.
