Salt Etching
Blaming Ann and her Sherrie Haab post and Lisa for her reminder of her etching tut in MJ, this is what I got up to at the weekend.
It all started out because my OH became 'interested' in the 'mechanics' of salt etching copper - then I got carried away.
My drawing skills are non existent but they were fun to do and relatively inexpensive to set the process up. They have been in the LOS and given a coat of clear acrylic lacquer.

Re: Salt Etching
You know I like these Lynne. Bring em with you Saturday so I see them in real life.
We are hopefully going to Sandown Park to the Big Bead Show. Anyone else going?

Re: Salt Etching
Ashlynn, those are amazing. They would look great on a kumihimo braid!
I am also hoping to get to Sandown Park on Saturday. Any chance of meeting up?

Re: Salt Etching
Thank you for you lovely comments.
Pru - would be great to meet up and I think Ann is going to pm you
Yes Lisa - I'm hooked, I'm not a massive fan of copper and find it challenging to design with so quite chuffed that I actually like them.

Ooh theyve turned out really well! What pen did you use in the end? Nothing I used worked very well when i tried it.

Tinker I used the Printed Circuit Board Etch Resistant Marker Pen from Maplins code no HX02C £3.99 but I have some Stop Out Varnish on order from Vitrums which I am hoping will give me more detail as the maker pen is not that fine a tip.
The copper has to be totally clean and bone dry before using the pen (even finger prints are a no no) or else it comes off before the solution does its job - they were in for about an hour to an hour and a half. Kept lifting them out and as soon as there was any sign of the pen coming off they were out.
Re: Salt Etching
Yep that's the pen I used too. It helps if you let the pen marks dry for a while before you put it in the salt solution I found.
