I made a mould and cast a ring
I told ya's all I was struggling to get a sterling silver ring to use as a base for the crystal clay I've become very attracted to, and that I was struggling to find a way to make my own in either molten silver or silver clay. Well, I opted for the silver clay route and so had to make a mould from the blue sticky gum stuff. When it was set I filled both halves with ArtClay Silver (much smoother and easier to work with than PMC).
2 days later I opened the mould and found this:

After tidying it up very carefully with a needle file and emery papers it looked like this:

And after firing it looked like this:

I was really rather pleased but thought I'd do better with the next one.
As silver clay is so expensive I couldn't afford to let this piece go to waste so set to with the epoxy clay and crystal chatons and the end result is......

I'm very very pleased to say that my client didn't feel it necessary to make another one as she thought this one was just perfect.
I have to say at this point that the photo of the finished ring shows several flaws in the casting but it was taken on a Super-Macro setting and shows flaws that aren't visible to the naked eye.
I think I'll be making more of these

Well done for working it all out and achieving what you, and the client, wanted. It must have been very satisfying and it looks great.

Well done Gillian, its a very bling ring!
You've done really well making one from scratch, I found silver clay soooo difficult to use I gave up with it.

It turned out very well Gillian. Have you been encouraged to use more silver clay now?
Re: I made a mould and cast a ring
That's one classy ring, glad it all worked out well and that both you and your client are pleased with it.
Looking forward to the next one.

Thank-you girls. It is a bit bling isn't it? Not really my own thing, except for a big night out, but it was a great project to work on and got me really excited again. Was just what I needed.
I did find this Art Clay a lot easier to use than PMC though. Less sticky and fibrous. It also seemed a bit stronger when dry than the other stuff too.
I might use it again for other things too. (When I've got some money )
