Beadwork

Despite saying that I'm not a beader, those little seedies do creep up and take over sometimes. This is based on one of the Japanese Beadwork designs in Sonoko Nozue's book and is reversible; the Czech crystal beads on one side being Aqua and on the other being Smoky grey.

Lovely Elaine, great colour combo and I imagine its comfortable on the wrist as well.

Know what you mean about the seedies, I think there is a conspiracy out there to convert us metal bods.....lol

Isn't it funny how we are all turning to the dreaded seed bead! My theory is that is you come at seed beading from having experience in other forms of jewellery making you tend to go for a clean, unfussy style of seed beading. Some of the really intricate designs favoured in the States are amazing, but unwearable. To my mind, understated is the way to go with seed beads. What do you all think?

Yes I think it's true Pru, I always admire those designs you get on the back pages of the mags for firemountain gems ( I think) where you can tell they've spent about a year making their finalist entry but I much prefer something I can finish in a week and that's not too fussy.

In my case, I suspect that the seed beads are because I'm finding it hard to afford silver these days, but they are quite relaxing to play with, slumped in front of the TV after a long day.

That is so delicate and pretty. I love to wear bracelets because you can see them all the time, unlike earrings and necklaces which you only see in the mirror. Seed bead bracelets are so light and comfortable to wear.

What stitch did you use to make this lovely bracelet, Elaine?

I am with you Elaine, first love will always be silver but the seeds are a pleasant compromise in these hard times. However I also agree with you Pru, coming to seedies from metal smithing I prefer the less intricate designs.

Pru, the base is spiral stitch with size 6 and 11 and the dangly bits are 11s added onto the base row.

Lisa, that's an inordinate amount of time to wait. Are they chopping down the trees to make the paper?

Apparently they're having trouble getting a copy, grr, don't know why when you order books, they say they have them in stock when they obviously don't.

They look lovely Elaine, I especially like the clear / silvery looking one, with all those dangles, bet that feels just wonderful on. My first steps into jewellery making was seed beading, I have a few on my Etsy site, well one bracelet and 2 anklets, loved making them.

Nice work Elaine! I love the blue one especially.

I think anything that keeps us from having to go outside is a winner lately eh! I've been back at the sewing machine, making little purses and bags so they may make their way onto Etsy one day, if I make any good enough or that I want to part with!
