Shall I, shan't I?

Post  ToBeadOrNotToBead on Fri Jun 15, 2012 12:52 am

I have been deliberating for a while whether to post this or not. I feel that my jewellery has been moving in a different direction to many of you on the forum. This is partly due to my interest in Kumihimo and partly due to my involvement with an Australian forum, which is very seed bead focused. I have decided to show you this necklace and hope you will be interested, even if it is not really up your street.

Twice a year this Australian forum runs something called the Designer Quest. The forum is sponsored by various different bead shops and online suppliers and one of them will provide a pack of beads and findings, at minimal cost, which members can purchase and use in whatever way they see fit. You can add a few bits and pieces and you try to use as much as the pack as possible. The results are posted and the sponsor sellects a winner and a vote of members is conducted as well.

Since I have been in Oz I have entered 3 Designer Quests and they have been tremendous fun. This is my entry for the most recent one.

This is the good bit and I am sorry to blow my own trumpet and all that, but I was voted second in the public vote. I think the Pom has been accepted at last!!

Wow that is stunning Pru, love the flower on the side, how many hours of work went into it.

From a non beader - please please do post as I enjoy seeing your work and can appreciate the work involved - in fact I enjoying seeing jewellery from all sorts of media from everyone.

Glad the Pom seems to be accepted but you are not allowed to de-camp, congrats on the public vote.

Thanks to everyone for all those encouraging comments. I have entered a few kumihimo designs into the competition run by MJ and Beadsmith, so I might show you a couple of those next. It is a sort of open competition, with all the entries posted on Braiding Britain on Facebook, but it is judged by a panel, rather than a public vote.

It took a while to complete, but not as long as you might think because the beads on the front are sewn onto a base of kumihimo and I worked a little wire frame into it to support the larger beads.

The best part of the competition is seeing what everyone else comes up with having all had the same beads to start with. This time there were about 40 or 50 entries and every single one was totally different. It was great fun to enter.

It's lovely Pru. What a good idea to use a braid as the base. If I was a beader, I'd nick that idea straight away :-)

Goodness Pru! That's stunning. A really gorgeous necklace and very skilled work. I'd love to do seedwork but am afraid arthritis wont let me; too painful.
It is, as previously mentioned, always good to see as much and as many varied types of jewellery making as possible here on the forum. I'm sure most of us in here have at least dabbled in many many different techniques so it's great to see your work. You picked up that seed beading REALLY quickly. Great stuff.

I'm very much interesting in Seed beads and have worked a few items on my loom,
Don't stop posting, it's been said, but it's good to get a variety of interest and style's after all it's the "Spice of life".
