copper bead caps Empty copper bead caps

Post  nangoose Fri Mar 30, 2012 9:40 am

I had this idea for making square bead caps and have spent most of the week messing around with them. Am not happy with the results. There are still loads of scratches but as I hate them, gave up on polishing them out and just strung them to see if they achieved the result I wanted, which was meant to be like a string of Chinese lanterns.
I wasted most of yesterday afternoon trying to string them into something I liked, without success. Not that I could do much indoors as the kitchen was full of men putting plasterboard up on my kitchen ceiling (we had a leak a couple of weeks ago & the ceiling came down) Today will be spent clearing up all the plaster dust which is on every surface in every room of the house.
Am grateful to be escaping to bead show tomorrow.
On Monday I am heading up to the Lake District for a week, so will be MIA until after the EAster holidays.

I like the shape of the copper; like little calyxes (if that's the right word). I hope that you have a great time in the Lake District and have good weather - I'm not going until May but am really looking forward to it. We usually stay in the same self-catering cottage (not sure why they always call them cottages) in Ambleside.

I like! And I think the facetting of the beads you've used set the angles of the squares off lovely.

Have a fab time in the Lakes - one of my favourite Uncle's favourite places in the UK Smile

They're fab! I could also see them as cute little dangly earrings.

Thanks peoples,
unfortunately it is not a proper holiday. We are staying with my sister and will spend most of the time visiting my 92 year old mam, who has been a wee bit poorly. We are not driving there so will only be able to get around on local buses. I doubt we will get to see a lake as my family live in West Cumbria. I am hoping to get a trip to Carlisle to do a bit of summer clothes shopping during the week. I'll be happy just walking round Whitehaven Docks. Whitehaven has a great Italian restaurant and the best fish and chip shop in the UK.

Aha you've thrown down the gauntlet there Nan lol! The Anstruther Fish Bar in Fife is second to none.
Hope you manage to get some relaxation on your holiday though.

I have to admit they can't make decent fish n chips down south all the best are up north. Shame no one can make a decent pea fritter these days either.

Hope your mam will be ok nan

Crosbys in Whitehaven is situated right near the docks so the fish comes off the boats and straight into the fryers. They also serve REAL mushy peas, non of those frozen luminous green horrors you get down south.
Actually I have just had fish and chips for my dinner tonight as Lynne and I have just got back to the Island from the Big Bead Show.
It was nice meeting up with Elaine and Pru. Thank you for my scarab bead Elaine, I will try and do it justice when I am back from Cumbria.
It was good to put faces to online friends. Elaine was wearing stunning lapis jewellery. I really liked the spiral wires of your earrings and Pru was wearing a bracelet that I really lusted after. It made me want to have a go at beading.
I was good and only spent my pocket money. The plastic card stayed in my wallet, lol. I hope you both got home safe and sound and had a good day.

Firstly I have had a chance to see these little lanterns in the flesh - the photo does not do them justice, they are lovely - a great innovative design that works with every size/combination of bead used - what does not work, and its only my humble opinion, is the whole design of the necklace. Yes they would make great earrings but don't give up on the necklace, re-work it my friend.

Two ladies nearly got mugged yesterday.....lol , Elaine for her earrings and Pru for her bracelet - it was great to meet you both, hopefully next time for a little longer Elaine.

I didn't spend a fortune either and the plastic stayed well hidden but did get a Kumihimo Disk so I will ditch the cardboard one and have a proper go - a great day, good company but 6 hrs travelling takes it toll nowadays.............lol

If you can pull off a necklace like that when you don't like what you're working with I'm packing up my stash and waving the white flag.
I love the square bead cap results. Personally I'd have put turquoise beads with them for contrast but yours works very well.

Sorry to hear about your mam, Nan, but I hope that she'll be a lot better soon. Aged parents are always a worry.

It was great meeting Lynne, Nan and Pru at the show yesterday. Sorry to Lynne and Nan that I was tied up with negotiating a purchase with Beadbuyer at the time and we didn't have a bit longer to chat and also that I totally managed to miss two text messages and a phone call; going deaf, me? I hope not!

Wasn't aware that my earrings had caused such a stir - I call them paperclip earrings because the wire is shaped like a paperclip, and then you just thread on whichever dangles you are feeling like wearing when you put them on. The melted blob at the end of the wire stops the dangles from falling off.

Spent far too much on semi-precious again, but am stocking up ready to make things for a "Friends of the Petrie Museum" event in June so have some excuse.

Meanwhile, back at the beadcaps. I agree that earrings made with those would be stunning and you could get another interesting effect by stacking two or more beadcaps on top of each other.
